I’ve known for some time that distortion is at the heart of what creates the classic “lo-fi” sound that so many people love. Honestly, I was hoping for something more aggressive, but I ended up learning that guitar amp emulations sound great with a more mellow FM synth patches. I was combining different synth patches from FM8 with different Guitar Rig 5 presets. This began with a simple exercise in sound design. Today I made a laid back beat with some elements of lo-fi hip-hop.
